A Life of Strength: Anastasia Andreyevna Telega, 94

In the city of Kherson, where daily life is still shaped by the dangers and hardships of war, Ukrainian Children Inc. continues to reach those who are most vulnerable. One of the people we recently helped is Anastasia Andreyevna Telega, the oldest woman in her district. At 94 years old, she has lived through nearly a century of history — yet the hardships of the current war have brought unimaginable loss even at this stage of life.

A Tragic Loss

Anastasia’s husband was killed during the war when shrapnel struck the car he was riding in with friends. They had just finished cleaning their home on Stebliyevskaya Street and were traveling together when the attack occurred. What should have been an ordinary moment of helping and rebuilding became a tragedy that changed her life forever.

For Anastasia, the loss of her husband after so many years together has been deeply painful. In the midst of conflict and uncertainty, she now faces the challenges of advanced age without the partner who shared her life for decades.

A Daughter’s Devotion

Today, Anastasia is cared for by her daughter, who is also elderly herself. Despite her own limitations, she lovingly supports her mother through the daily realities of life in a city where electricity, heat, water, and basic supplies are often unreliable.

Their situation is a powerful reminder that the war affects not only those on the front lines, but also the oldest and most fragile members of society, who depend on family and the kindness of others simply to get through each day.
